Marsden High School has a strong debating and public speaking group in Years 7-10, with our first Year 11 debating team starting in 2016. Guided by Ms Rose and Ms Taplin, students develop skills in working collaboratively and critical thinking. Our students participate in local and statewide speaking and debating competitions; such as Premier's Debating Competition, Legacy Public Speaking, and both Rotary and Lions public speaking competitions.

This year students have had the opportunity to participate in skill building days at the University of Western Sydney. They have also been a part of inter-school workshops.

In 2014, our 9/10 team were regional finalists for the first time. Well done to the team; Ivy, Lina, Hugh, Callum, Vivian and Ray.

Marsden High/Belmore College masterclass

In Term 3, students had the opportunity to participate in a debating masterclass with Belmore College from Newcastle. Led by Ms Rose, the two schools were taken through the three Ms, the language of rhetoric, prep room skills, effective rebuttal, and devising a model. It was a great day where students both new and experienced in debating had the chance to learn some new skills and meet some fellow debaters.
